Exploring foundations, flows, and frontiers on the 40th anniversary of the c-theorem.
Organized at the Instituto Balseiro / Centro Atómico Bariloche, in the Andean foothills of Patagonia, this event marks four decades since the formulation of the c-theorem.
The meeting aims to bring together leading researchers and students to discuss foundational and modern methods in quantum field theory. Topics will include structural aspects of QFT, renormalization group flows, irreversibility, and developments in high-energy theory.
The format combines lectures for advanced students and researchers, with research oriented talks and informal discussions.
The Instituto Balseiro hosts active research groups at the Centro Atómico Bariloche:

San Carlos de Bariloche sits in the heart of Argentine Patagonia, on the shores of Nahuel Huapi Lake and surrounded by the Andes. It is a beautiful, small city well accustomed to hosting international visitors. Here is practical advice for scientists traveling from abroad.
Bariloche's airport (BRC, Teniente Luis Candelaria) has daily flights from Buenos Aires, both from Aeroparque (AEP) and Ezeiza (EZE). The flight takes about two hours. Aerolíneas Argentinas, FlyBondi, and JetSMART operate these routes. International visitors typically connect through Buenos Aires.
Most nationalities (EU, US, Canada, UK, Japan, Australia, Latin America) do not need a visa for stays under 90 days. Check the Argentine Migration website for your nationality. We provide invitation letters upon request.
The Instituto Balseiro is at km 9.5 along Avenida Bustillo, the scenic road along the lake. Public buses run frequently. You need a SUBE card (rechargeable transport card), available at kiosks downtown.
May is autumn and low season, so hotel prices are considerably lower than in ski season. We recommend staying along Av. Bustillo (km 1–10) for easy access to the Institute, or in the city center for more restaurants and services.
Argentina uses the peso (ARS). Exchange rates fluctuate — check current rates before traveling. Credit cards are widely accepted. ATMs dispense pesos but may have daily limits.
Late May in Bariloche is late autumn. Expect daytime temperatures of 5–12°C (40–54°F) and cold nights near 0°C. Rain and occasional snow are possible. Bring warm layers and a waterproof jacket.
Financial support for travel and accommodation is anticipated through the Simons Foundation grant.
Registration deadline: April 7, 2026
